Celebrate National Bike Month

May is National Bike Month! This monthlong initiative is promoted by the League of American Bicyclists and is designed to champion biking as a fun and fulfilling lifestyle change while encouraging more people to try it.

Half of all car trips in the U.S. are less than three miles long, which is less than a 20-minute bike ride, according to the League of American Bicyclists.

The beauty of biking is that it can be done with friends and family, taking you anywhere you want to go. Whether biking together as a family to the nearest grocery store or biking around town with friends for leisure, one bike ride can take you far, both physically and mentally.

Regular cycling has many health and wellness benefits. Cyclists see strengthened bones, improved posture, coordination, increased cardiovascular fitness, and the reward of a mental health boost through the release of endorphins.

Commuters who choose to ride their bike can also enjoy the benefits of saving money and protecting the environment. In 2022, cyclists across the country who participated in the Love to Ride challenge rode over 1.6 million miles and prevented nearly 250,000 lbs. of carbon dioxide emissions from disrupting the air quality of our ecosystem. Additionally, having more bicyclists on the road encourages communities to create more bike-friendly infrastructure. Be a part of the change and start earning points toward amazing rewards when you record your next trip. Get started today by visiting rethinkyourcommute.com.
